Its a very scientific basis on which the foundation works. Totally chalked out Plan of Action (POA) and a clear vision as usual as to what to achieve.

Empowerment of School Children(Govt UPS & High Schools)
Need? The general level of infrastructure in the Govt run schools is poor. The faculty attendance and teaching levels are not very convincing. There’s a need for monitoring the performances by the Foundation’s volunteers. And it has been proved beyond doubt that the performance levels have been improving since the foundation’s intervention.
The general dropout rate of the children (35 % - 40%) has been at an alarmingly rising levels.Community participation only can make any project sustainable and the foundation is toiling for it.
Increased levels of community participation in 100 villages taken up by Vandemaataram foundation have yielded results both in terms of infrastructure, performances in teachers and students as well.
There is a need for awareness and capacity building both among the Parents, teachers and the Community at large.
The children deserve better tomorrow and schools are the basic building blocks. We need to strengthen them.
There is the need for volunteers to monitor and co-ordinate the community initiative.Beneficiaries?
The Children poor and vulnerable who otherwise will end up as child labourers. Both School going as well as dropouts and the never to school children will benefit as the foundation is trying to bring every child out o school to school, and every child in the school to better performance. The teachers who will have a chance to upgrade themselves and perform their duties better.
The community as one unit takes care of the school, as it is the cornerstone of the society. As the foundation will be organizing Alumni meets and other such programmes that would support the long run sustainability of the school infrastructure. Objectives ?To provide quality education to the rural children in Warangal district. To inculcate moral values, nationalism in a district that’s infested with anti-social elements.
1. To provide academic support to the students at various levels by counseling.
2. To strengthen the cultural ethos through a set of extracurricular activities.
3. To bring the ownership of the community by encouraging them to adopt the Govt schools as their own schools.
4. To achieve the ideals of Lead-India propounded by Sri Abdul Kalam.
5. To instill the ideals and teachings of swami Vivekananda.
Specific Measurable objectives:
1. Increase the enrollment in the 100 schools adopted by Vandemaataram Foundation.
2. Improve individual performance of the Children (measurable in their marks) through subject wise talent tests.
3. Improve their sports and cultural performances.
4. Improve the Infrastructure of the 100 Govt Schools adopted by the foundation.Expected Results?i) 100 % enrollment in the 100 schools adopted by the Foundationii) Infrastructure mobilization & security through community ownership.A school environment, which would tackle social evils like child marriages, addictions, caste discriminations and other such.100 Model schools that will stand as inspiration and influence to their peer schools in and around the villages.

METHODOLOGY?
School LevelEvery school has school cabinet consisting 24 children, who look after the school on various issues. The school coordinator is the link working to maintain the system smooth There’s a student friendly teacher that guides the cabinet.Village levelAt the village level is the Village coordinator who coordinates with the team of 10 village influential people. He/ she conducts alumnii meetings and brings them to participation in school activities like enrolling the children campaign like child labour awareness campaign, and also mobilize minimum school infrastructure and community ownership.Mandal levelThe mandal level coordinator is the mandal incharge who coordinates the 10 school volunteer as well as village volunteers (20 members) and adopted school student friendly teachers (10 members). He coordinates the School development committee (100 members) for the monthly meetings, plan of action and monthly reviews.Zone levelThe Zone level coordinator has to monitor and supervise three mandals and the coordinator would be active in documenting the activities as well as visit and sit with all his subordinates. He would design & plan in advance along with mandal level and village level coordinators. He acts as a resource person to the whole programme and also would be representing the Foundation at various official and fit occasions.Project LevelThe Project level coordination will be the sole responsibility of the chief supervisor and director of the Working committee. He / She shall travel, meet, coordinate the over all implementation of the project at various levels. Thus, in order to prevent these incidents and to make summer vacation a useful one we are planning to give overall personality development to the students which include discipline, moral values, patriotism etc., Hence, Vandemataram Foundation have planned to organize Summer Schools to children at rural areas.

Experiences of last year:Foundation gave training to the village co-coordinators in the last year.Village coordinators later trained the students to develop their patriotism, practiced patriotic songs, games, personality development, fine arts, yoga, meditation, basic foundation to develop their overall skills.

From 8AM to 11 AM we conducted these activities at 32 schools in Warangal District.7100 students participated in the camp and utilized to their maximum extent.

Results:The students who underwent this summer camp, later participated in their school activities like essay writing, games, cultural events etc., and won 1st and 2nd prizes in the competition. They were given a high class grade for their discipline, positive relationship between student friends and whole hearted respect to their faculty. Thus, these activities lead to good deal and so incidents occurred like loosing lives, no deviations from society and no addicted to bad habits. They participated in “Shramadhanam” like cleanliness, plantation etc.,Training Centers:

Based on the previous results, we planned to conduct Summer School in 100 schools of Warangal district, and planned to give training to 300 people (3 for each school)

About Us

About Us

Vandemataram foundation is a registered Community development organization working for child rights through the schools for a better India and a better world. It was on the eve of the Centenary year of the Vandemataram Movement that the Foundation was launched

Vandemataram Foundation has been at the forefront of Child rights and School Empowerment with grass root level interactions and right to Information campaigns.
India Vision 2020! With literacy rate of 61% national average and ranked at the bottom of Human Development Index, does it sound possible at least near to possibility?
“ A developed India by 2020 is possible only through people’s participation and children are the nucleus of this transformation“ - H.E. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, doesn’t it seem hopefully better.
This is what has motivated the Foundation to fight for the child rights and contribute its mite in the India 2020 vision of the President Kalam.“What we do is just visit the school, post office, anganwadi center in the village once in a while without actually intruding” says a volunteer of the Vandemataram Foundation. Nobody knows better than the villagers themselves who today not only look up to the volunteers but act as a volunteer themselves. That is a simple story of simple success by a few young volunteers all in their 20’s. The visits have changed lives of the children and their schools in the villages. All it needed was community participation and it started with ‘I’ and went on to become ‘us’. It has been years of achievement, however small though starting Oct 2005, the volunteers worked out their mission and are still on their way. With a total of 400 volunteers toiling day in and day out selfless the mission seems to be in the range of sight. But we know we have a long way to go. That is why we appeal to all of you to join us….Networking schools for social transformation is the slogan of the foundation, with a resolve to fulfill the Millennium development goals (MDG) that have been promised by the International community to its people to be achieved by 2015. The foundation with the inspiration of His Excellency Mr Abdul Kalam the President of India (July 2002 -July 2007) is working for the betterment of children and their education. A new freedom struggle this time against the poverty and illiteracy is influencing 100 schools in interior 10 mandals of Warangal and Mahaboobnagar District. The dropout rate has fallen steep down and the attendance of teachers climbing up, the performance of school as a unit is spreading smiles. Awarding the schools that perform, rewarding the teachers that achieve through their students and encouraging schools that nurture the future leaders for a better tomorrow the foundation has taken great strides in making a difference. The world is struggling against many things among others are illiteracy and child rights exploitation which directly affect the world tomorrow.Vandemataram signifies a struggle with one voice a battle cry for freedom that ultimately achieved the right of the common man, his basic rights. That is just the reason why this project is named Vandemataram Foundation. Now its just the time to rise in one voice for a battle on illiteracy and child abuse in whatever form. The school is the nucleus of the nation’s heart and a child tomorrow’s citizen is molded here. The foundation would like to attempt a change right at the roots of the structure, for a better tomorrow. The movement Vandemataram has sprouted in Oct 2005 in Varadannpet, Warangal district after looking at the enormous numbers of child labourers and child marriages. Thanks to a the wise times from H.E. President Kalam, he has not only touched our hearts but moved us deep down. Today there are millions of young and old alike whom he inspired and we are proud to be in the league of inspired and implementing. To make India strong enough to face a tougher tomorrow and a beginning to a happy new India a school is where we started to work.In India on an average 22% of upper primary schools are 3 k.m. away from the habitations and 50% dropout even before reaching class 5.Not just literacy but Education with values that are universal and satisfy equality of humanity and the Vedic verses of VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM.

Background

Vandemataram Foundation

Andhra Pradesh
The Background

A School is a place where each one of us have learnt to live and graduated in to the world to become what we are today and what we become tomorrow. The simple word “My school” sends most of us, rather all of us tumbling down the memory lane with loads of nostalgic images and childhood playfulness.

There are 3 million Street children in India, who have never tasted the sweetness of alphabets. It is not just missing the school that affects the child and the nation as a whole but the childhood and learning at the tender age that is really a matter of grave concern.

A mothers lap becomes the first school and teachers’ company the second, it can be under a tree, in a community hall or under a thatched roof. It is here that an individual is molded in to a better or whatever citizen of tomorrow. The school infrastructure and morale of the teacher who used to be the nucleus of the village is fast dwindling. Vandemataram Foundation wishes to contribute in the development of the children with help from Community and the teachers, making learning fun.

Situation grave:
Nearly 1.4 crore children are out of school; this situation is especially worse in Bihar, Rajashtan and Jharkand, where 10% or more of school-age children are not enrolled.
The gender gap in the percentage of children out of school, however, has dropped. In 2001, it was estimated that 2 out of 3 dropouts were girls, but this study finds that only a little more than half (52-55%) of the children out of school are gilrs.
In three out of four schools visited by volunteers collecting data, the teachers were present, as they are expected to be. In several states, all the teachers assigned to surveyed schools were present. Unexpectedly, however, teacher absenteeism was high in Kerala, where 3 out of 10 schools visited did not have any teacher present.
The really worrisome findings from ASER relate not to attendance and demographics, but to learning. The tests of reading ability were quite simple (a short paragraph at the grade 2 level), but even then 35% of children aged 7-14 could not pass this test, and 60% of the children could not read a simple story, also at grade 2 level. This situation was in fact worse in states like Tamilnadu and Gujarat, where the usual indicators (school availability, enrolment, teachers, etc.) are all good. Students in Bihar and Chhatisgarh fared better, despite really poor education infrastructure indicators for their states.

(Source: PRATHAM Annual study of Education Report-2006, ASER)

Over 79% of the out-of-school children belong to the rural areas, SC/ST children account for nearly 11.5 % of the total out-of-school children. The most common cause for remaining out of school was due to household work, taking care of siblings and working to improve the family income.
The drop-out rates in Mahabubnagar, Medak, Warangal, Nizamabad (above 50%) and Nalgonda (above 40%) are very high and needs urgent attention. The Dropout rate wavers from 19 % to 36% depending up on the class and poverty level of the child’s family.
(Source: Andhra Pradesh State Report Sarva Siksha Abhiyan)

captions

VANDEMATARAM FOUNDATION

Our School
Our Village
Our Country

CAPTIONS

A better School a better SocietyNew Freedom struggle against illiteracy

The future lies in the classroom

Mere literacy is not education

What India needs is Education with values.

Every school counts in making a nation

School enriches a tomorrow

A good school can better a nation

Schools are index of a nation / master keys to country growth

Schools are nations glory
